Assessments and Therapy

A comprehensive approach

Evaluation

The first step in speech therapy is a speech and language assessment. During this process, we interview the parents and the individual seeking treatment to better understand their challenges. We also observe the child’s speech and language skills during play. If needed, we may administer standardized speech therapy tests. With parental consent, we may also consult with other professionals who work with the child to gather additional information. The evaluation is conducted by experienced speech-language pathologists with a master’s degree, who recognize the wide range of speech issues that may require different approaches.

Diagnosis

After the evaluation, a diagnosis is made by a regulated physician, and a personalized treatment plan is developed. This may involve consultations with other healthcare professionals. The diagnosis will determine the specific speech therapy services needed. Common issues treated through speech therapy include articulation delay, language delay, autism, Down syndrome, learning disabilities, reading, and writing difficulties, and stuttering. Each issue requires a tailored treatment plan for optimal progress.

Treatment

To see improvement, regular in-home or virtual speech therapy sessions are essential. Therapy addresses a variety of communication disorders, such as articulation delay, language delay, stuttering, learning disabilities, autism, Down syndrome, aphasia, reading difficulties, writing concerns, and apraxia. Our therapists provide consistent, personalized sessions, either at home, daycare, or school to ensure effective progress. Consistency is key to reinforcing techniques and improving speech.

Tools

In addition to therapy sessions, we will suggest strategies to use between sessions to reinforce progress. These tools, including word games, apps, and worksheets to help the patient practice and correct speech issues naturally. At Speech Hub, we have a strong track record of helping individuals of all ages overcome speech challenges, and we are here to help you, too.

In- School or Daycare Speech and Language Therapy

Providing speech and language therapy services at schools or daycare centers offers a convenient and supportive environment for children to receive the help they need. Speech-language pathologists (S-LPs) can work directly with children in a familiar setting, where they are comfortable and more receptive to learning. By connecting with the school’s administrative staff, therapy sessions in these environments can be seamlessly integrated into daily routines, allowing for targeted support in areas such as articulation, language development, social communication, and literacy. By collaborating with teachers, caregivers, and other professionals, S-LPs can tailor therapy to the child's specific needs and educational goals, ensuring a holistic approach to their communication development. This setting also allows for immediate reinforcement of skills in real-life situations, helping children apply their learning in both social and academic contexts.
